Before healing, there is often uncertainty. Quiet moments filled with doubt, anticipation, and the question of whether change is even possible. Each new cohort in our Learning Clinic brings that same energy.

At CCC, our interns are not alone in that moment. Each session is grounded in preparation, supported by experienced volunteer clinical supervisors, and guided by CCC staff who are present every step of the way. What begins as a moment of growth for the clinician is also the beginning of meaningful, supported care for the client.

Before a new intern has their first session, there is a familiar nervousness. Pacing in the hallway, reviewing paperwork one last time, waiting for their client to arrive. It is a moment of focus and anticipation that every counselor remembers.

Not long ago, I listened to an intern reflect on her very first session. She had felt the weight of it beforehand, wanting to do right by her client. Afterward, she could hardly contain her excitement. She described how the conversation unfolded, how supported she felt in the process, and how it all came together in a way that felt both grounded and real. Then she began to cry. Not from feeling overwhelm, but from realization. For the first time, she understood that she could do this work, and that she was not doing it alone.

“The hope that emerges in these conversations often leaves both the client and therapist feeling inspired and deeply committed to the work of healing.” — CCC Intern

Moments like that are made possible through thoughtful training, consistent supervision, and the steady guidance of experienced clinicians. Alongside our learning clinic, CCC is supported by dedicated volunteer therapists with years of professional experience. Together, interns, volunteers, and clinical supervisors create a layered system of care, ensuring clients benefit not only from the therapist in the room, but from a broader network of support working behind the scenes.
